A Long Tradition of Talent on Display at West Jordan Middle School Chalk Art Festival

Student drawing in chalk on the sidewalk at West Jordan Middle SchoolIt is a festival that features the work of talented art students in a unique way where the sidewalk outside of school is turned into one big canvas. The West Jordan Middle School Chalk Art Festival was a huge success this year with about 190 students participating in collaborative art projects, creating drawings based on a theme and working together to make wonderful, colorful creations! This was the largest Chalk Art Festival in the 11- year history of the event at West Jordan Middle.

Congratulations to all of the students involved and to Visual Arts Teacher Ivie Erickson for inspiring creativity and a love for the arts in young lives.

Hayden Peak Elementary Students All Smiles Playing Kickball with Police Officers

Picture of kickball gameSome Hayden Peak Elementary 5th grade students got a big kick out of having police officers at their school recently. That’s because in an effort to engage with students and get to know them, West Jordan police came to the school for a friendly game of kickball. It gave officers a break from their regular routine and allowed them to serve in a way that builds a bond and trust with students.

The game with West Jordan’s finest was so much fun, students are already looking forward to kickball with the officers next year.

Thanks to West Jordan Police for spending some valuable time at Hayden Peak, letting kids know how much they care over a good game of kickball.

Summer Challenge: Small Acts of Wellness

Wellness WednesdayIt’s the little things that make the biggest difference when it comes to your wellness and the wellness of students.

Now that students aren’t spending much or any of the day in school, there is a mistaken belief that families need to do “big” things with their extra time together. However, wellness is determined by small, intentional, positive daily acts. This means that wellness is within each person’s reach.

A daily walk in the sunlight, an extra few minutes talking in-person or on the phone with friends or family, or a five-minute daily meditation can have a big impact on a person’s overall wellness.

We want to offer you a summer wellness challenge. Make this summer, a summer of small things. Take 5-30 minutes per day to attempt an intentional, positive wellness practice.
