“Apple Crunch Day” Serving Students and Staff a Healthy Treat from a Local Farm

There were a lot of students and staff happily crunching on healthy apples during lunch today. That’s because “Apple Crunch Day” is being celebrated in Jordan School District. The annual event in October coincides with National Apple Month and National Farm to School Month.

In some schools on “Apple Crunch Day”, students and community members participate in a synchronized “crunch” into locally grown Utah apples to raise awareness for healthy eating and to support local farmers. This year JSD Nutrition Services purchased local apples from Pyne Farms in Santaquin, Utah to help everyone celebrate. The apples were delivered to schools and offered for free to anyone who wanted to crunch into an awesome apple.

Happy “Apple Crunch Day” everyone!

JATC North Students and Staff Shine as Fox 13’s “Cool School of the Week”

All morning long students and staff at the Jordan Academy for Technology and Careers, (JATC) North campus, proved why their programs are not only popular, but incredibly impressive. JATC North was selected as this week’s “Cool School of the Week” for Fox 13 News.

Reporter Darienne DeBrule was treated to a first-hand look at some JATC programs like Aviation, Cybersecurity, Robotics, and Certified Nursing Assistant. The students demonstrated their knowledge in the individual areas of study and showed everyone how they are getting a jump start on their careers by attending classes at JATC.

Congratulations, JATC North students and staff! You are one of the coolest schools around.

Jordan Child Development Center Has Family Fun at Annual Fall Festival

The staff at the Jordan Child Development Center hosted their annual Fall Festival, much to the delight of families in attendance. The early start to Halloween festivities gave students a chance to put on their costumes and have some indoor Trick-Or-Treat fun.

For parents, this was one of the first opportunities to tour the Child Development Center’s new facilities at the Jordan Learning Center, located at 9800 S. and 3706 W. The tour took parents and children on a Halloween tour through the new classrooms and testing centers used by the Child Development program in their preschool and early intervention programs. The grand finale was the elaborately decorated Trick-Or-Treat Street. Thanks to all the families who attended and enjoyed some family fun with us!

Celebrating National School Lunch Week

It is always fun to be in our school cafeterias, but this week there is even more fun to go along with the great food and friendly atmosphere. That’s because this is National School Lunch Week, a time to celebrate the delicious and nutritious meals served up every day by our amazing school lunch staff. The theme for this week is “Taste the World: Your School Lunch Passport” and our schools will be showcasing entrees on their menus that are inspired by different countries around the world.

Some schools are truly embracing this year’s theme, others are getting a head start on decorations for the Halloween holiday, all decked out with ghosts and goblins galore.

Jordan School District cafeterias serve more than 30,000 meals every single day thanks to the dedication and hard work of 500 cafeteria employees. Mouth-watering bread and desserts are made from scratch, as well as lasagna, chili, chicken enchiladas, even calzones. The most popular menu items are mandarin orange chicken, pizza, and corn dogs.

Thanks to our great cafeteria workers for making every day such a wonderful dining experience for students, teachers, staff, and parents!

Rocky Peak Unleashes Superpowers on Math and Literacy Night

Rocky Peak Virtual Elementary students donned their capes and masks and visited the new Jordan Learning Center for Superhero Math and Literacy Night. Students played math and reading games with the help of faculty and then took the games home to continue the fun and learning.

The superhero fun was even embraced by Principal Menlove, who muscled into his Thor costume to greet students. To top it all off, a book fair was available for superheroes to bring some new reading material to their secret hideouts, and pizza was provided for dinner.
